2010 And Beyond

This has been such a crazy year. So many ups and downs. So many struggles. But, as the year ends I am grateful. Grateful for my family, our jobs, our health, our home and our love.

There are so many lessons I learned this year through the hard times and many things I want to take from the struggles.

Doctors failed my family this year:

My 7 year old was unofficially diagnosed with being Bipolar. After putting her on some of the worst, life changing medicine ever he left for vacation. No one returned our calls. I found other doctors. She is back on the same medicines she was before. She still just has anxiety.

After fighting my depression and anxiety for the last 8 months my doctor basically told me there was nothing more she could do because "her treatment" didn't work. She wouldn't even consider other medications, even though I am clearly struggling.

The economy and health care has failed my family.

Sometimes friends aren't meant to be around forever. Some may just be given to you to help through certain times in your life.

I have lost myself.

I am way too hard on myself.

Instead of making New Year's Resolutions I just want to learn from past mistakes to make 2011 the best year ever.

I WILL find a new doctor this year that will listen to me and take my needs into consideration, not just their ego. I DESERVE to feel 100 percent and not just grateful for feeling better.

I WILL listen to my own instincts about my daughter. I will always know more about her than anyone.

I AM GRATEFUL to have found a job after a long year. I will use this bit of money wisely so that we don't have to struggle so much in the upcoming year. It will also help to pay some of our medical bills because of our awful health insurance.

I WILL forgive and stop hurting from being abandoned from my best friend of 20 years. We have moved into different places in life. I thought our bond was worth fighting for. I guess she didn't.

My husband will always be the best friend I could ever ask for. He has been my rock, my soft place to land, my security and through all the hard times has loved me unconditionally. I love him more than I could ever possibly say.

I WILL make time for me. I have lost myself in motherhood. I have lost all that is feminine about myself due to my responsibilities and lack of time. I WILL TAKE THE TIME FOR ME.

I WILL get back to a healthy weight. I will eat healthy and be a good example to my girls.

Since it is a new year I will start if off by not being so hard on myself.

I will go back to the things that give me joy and a sense of self - like my blog!!

I HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL, BLESSED
AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!

77Kids Wish 4 Snow $50 Gift Card Giveaway - A Holiday Season Charity Event

My daughters and I were lucky enough to be invited to the 77kids store at a local mall this weekend with other bloggers and their children. If you aren't familiar with 77kids, it is the newest line of stores from American Eagle Outfitters. They are opening stores nationwide, but you can also shop online if there isn't a store near you.

We were invited to view the holiday windows and look around the store at the new winter line before the store opened for the day. As you can guess my girls and I had a ball in the store. The clothes are so adorable! They are all so cozy, warm and stylish. I think we could have spent all day in the store and all my money if my girls had their way!! They even had this really cool photo booth where you can take a picture and have the store develop it before you leave.

There are many great aspects to the store. Their clothes fit boys and girls ranging from infant to middle school. The store itself is so neat and safe. They have taken the corners off of all of their stands and all the cubes on the floor holding clothes are made of cloth so there are no injuries. They really spent a lot of time making this store safe, fun and adorable!

This winter, 77kids is raising money for several Children's Hospitals both in-store and online. In store you can donate 77 cents or more to decorate a paper snowflake that will be added to the "blizzard wall".  Proceeds from the store I visited will benefit Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

You can also help on line.  77kids has launched a special website HERE where you can create a virtual snowflake for free. Once 100,000 snowflakes are created, 77kids will donate $25,000 to children's hospitals.

My girls and I made snowflakes this weekend and it was a lot of fun. Not to mention for a wonderful cause.

To help raise awareness for this great cause, 77kids has generously donated a $50 gift card to be used online or in-store for me to give away to one of my lucky readers!!!

Featuring Nora Jones Album Review

I have always been a big fan of Nora Jones.  I will never forget when her first album came out and I listened to it for the first time. She sang like an angel.

On November 16th, her album "Featuring" will be available in stores. This album is a star studded collection of musical collaborations she has been a part of for the last decade.

The 18 tracks on this album are filled with soul and blues from a variety of artists. Her collaborations range from the Foo Fighters to Dolly Parton. I loved every single track. I have to say, "Here We Go Again", sang with Ray Charles is one of my favorites. The song itself it a classic, but they way they sing together it is almost as if the song was written for the two of them.

"Featuring" hits the shelves on November 16th. Here are some other sites to find Nora Jones:

Disclosure:  I was provided with "Featuring" to write a review. I am also entered to win a gift card through  One2One Network  for participating. I did not receive any other compensation. All opinions are my own.

I Spy Memory Travel Edition Review

Do you sometimes find it hard to pick out the best toys for your kids? Let ebeanstalk help! They have a team of child experts that have chosen the very best baby toys and kids toys to include on their website. Based on the developmental milestones for each age, ebeanstalk's experts match every toy to a specific age group, so you can be certain you are getting the best learning toys out there!

In October I reviewed the website ebeanstalk.com. I have since had the opportunity to review a really cool travel game called I Spy Memory Travel edition from ebeanstalk.com.

This game is perfectly suited for my four year old. All of my girls love the I Spy series so this was a big hit in my house. My girls and I love the fact that the game is mobile. We spend a lot of time in the car and it was nice for them all to have something to play together. It was a little hard to play just because there was really no place for them to put their cards. But, none the less they loved playing together. I love the fact that they played together and learned at the same time instead of watching a mindless DVD in the car.

The Rattles CD Review And Giveaway

Since I live in a house with four children, music and cartoons are always on in my house. I get super excited when I find something that both my kids and I like to listen to.

When I was asked to do a review for The Rattles new CD, I was excited. They have been compared to the sounds of the Beatles and I love the Beatles.

The minute I put it on my girls were dancing around. The beats are fun and easy to dance to. I loved the fact that they really do sound like the Beatles. After the CD was over my girls were asking for more.

Here is their first music video:

Thanks to The Musebox, one of my readers can win a copy of The Rattles CD!

KT Tunstall Tiger Suit Album Review

KT Tunstall has come along way since the release of her first album, the pop-folk masterpiece "Eye to the Telescope," which eventually peaked at #3 on the UK music charts and jumped to #23 on the Billboard
charts the week following Katherine McPhee's performance of "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" on American Idol.

Her newest release, "Tiger Suit," is an almost complete 180-degree turn from Tunstall's august beginnings. In fact, she's pretty much kicked over her folksy roots and present tracks that are at times quite high-powered and very much danceable. Tunstall refers to her new material as "nature techno" and that's a label I'm comfortable with. Of course, though it may not do the 4-million business her debut did, it's always interesting to see an artist with the courage to branch out.

The first single, “Fade Like a Shadow” is a great dance track about the end of a relationship. To me, it's one of the more catchier songs on "Tiger Suit," but it's far from the only foot tapper. “Uummannaq Song,” which pulses with world music rhythms and backing vocals is another favorite of mine, as is “Glamour Puss,” a track that wouldn’t
sound out of place on an Adele Laurie Blue Adkins record. "(Still A) Weirdo," which was the first single released in the UK, has been described as an autobiographical account or the singer's life, according to Tunstall. The track is full of echoed whispering, beautiful acoustic guitar, and the singer's trademark aching, wavering voice. It's great stuff.

So, what's the final consensus? I think "Tiger Suit" is a great success. It takes what's made Tunstall so great already and adds to it in new, creative ways that keep it fresh, interesting, and certainly worth the wait. She shows that she is a real rarity in the music industry: a singer/songwriter who, in spite of being situated firmly
in the mainstream, is staunchly following her muse. She is able to serve up genuine emotion while avoiding the useless, inane heart-on-sleeve-ness of the majority of her contemporaries. She not only shows her talent here, but focuses it, sharp and laser-like, resulting in her strongest collection of songs yet.
