On The Verge Of A Dresscode

As most of my readers know I have four daughters. My oldest is 11 and just went into 6th grade.
She goes to public school because we can't afford private. She is a modest girl. She won't wear dresses or skirts. She isn't a tom boy, I would say more goth than anything and I only say that because she loves black. She isn't allowed to wear makeup, except for a glossy lip stuff. She is just starting to get into some of the name brands and I am ok with that. She knows that most of it is expensive and I will buy it on special occasions.

But then there is the rest of the world? Parents - where in the hell are you shopping and why???????
These young girls look like gang bangers or bikers girlfriends at 11! WTH are you thinking? I don't even see these kind of clothes when I am shopping. I am no prude, but seriously people they are only 11. Most girls don't even dress that way at 16.

Our society makes me sad. One more thing I feel I have to keep my daughter from - too much sexuality at 11.

My Baby Went To School Today

Somehow, the sunlit world is grey

A small girl went to school today

So often in these few years

Of healing hurts and mending tears

Of picking playthings off the floor

Or running often to the door

To see if she was safe at play

The awfull fear that she might stray

On eager, fearless baby feet

Into the crowded city street.

One thought has been a placid pool.

She'll soon be old enough for school.

And she was old enough today

Yet all the sunlit world is grey

So soon my rooms grow orderly

With no small girl to bother me.

But quiet rooms are lonely things

When in their walls no small girl sings

A quiet yard's a lonely place

When it has known a small girl's face

Today she joined the world of women

She'll not be wholly mine again

Today she braved life's rise and fall

Dear Lord she seems so very small.

Somehow the sunlit world seems grey

School for finally starting up again!!!!!!!!!

It's August and I'm Broke

I think I hate the month of August more than any other month of the year. August always equals =poor. School supplies, shoes, clothes, misc. crap. Oh and of course it has to be a five week month with 31 days in it!

I'm currently without a job because I was let go due to no budget in my department. This has to be the worst possible month to be without a job.

I have been putting my resume out there like crazy and keeping my fingers crossed. I am hoping that something will come through soon. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Wordless Wednesday - Out Of The Mouth Of Babes

My daughter wrote my husband a note the other day. My 8 year old daughter is one smart cookie!

22 More Days And Counting.....

It is wrong that I am counting down each day until my freedom? LOL It has been a long summer and we have now hit that part of summer that just  D............R..........A..........G.............S.

We have going swimming, biking, walking, hiking, picnicking, museums, beaches, sleep overs and more and no one wants to do anything anymore. THEY ARE BORED. I am exhausted. I am looking forward to school as a chance to take a deep breathe.

The only problem with back to school is the finances. It is so expensive to clothe these kids and get school supply, let alone feed them. I guess at least my grocery bill will go down considerably soon. I just hate the financial stress of trying to get everything. Wake me up when August ends..........
