I think it’s been almost 10 years since Gwen Stefani released a solo album, but you’d never think it, since she seems to have eased back into recording from her heart and soul as if no time has past at all. A lot has gone on since then and it shows in the both thew quality of her lyrics and the soul of her music. Clearly, Gwen channeled her heartbreak into the new album, as she recently admitted that her divorce nearly killed her. Despite that heartbreak, though, this is a strong and true body of work that transcends standard pop fare and captures what she does best: craft raw, honest and emotional music that will always be relatable and memorable.

Some of my personal favorites include “Asking 4 It,” which features a great duet with Fetty Wap; “Send Me a Picture,” which manages to capture the fun and urgency of trading erotic photos with your lover; and “Me Without You,” with its memorable lyrics that conjures up feelings that go with the newness of heartache and betrayal.
